The presentation of 'Depression in Children - A developmental Approach' went well on Saturday afternoon (at our Public Library and free of charge). There were about 45 people attending, most of whom I did not know. It was well received and I am encouraged. Just one nurse came, but a psychiatrist came and she was very pleased with it. She was happy that it wasn't a reductionist point of view.
I was pleased and am encouraged to carry on.
We need to give junior youth (12-15yr) what the need. They need, and want, the power of expression.
A good program to do this already exists in the Ruhi workbook 'Drawing on the Power of the Word' for Jr Youth.
"Like other materials of the Ruhi Institute, this book is concerned with the development of capabilities. Specifically, it focuses on the capability of exercising the power of expression. As such, it is being used in literacy programs which seek to go beyond the mechanics of reading and writing. Further, the content of the readings contribute to the development of another capability, that of identifying the moral implications of speech and action. The readings begin simply, but gradually gain in complexity both in terms of thought and language. They are organized around the meetings of a youth group and are meant to be studied in a similar setting."
